Well, a week or so ago I decided to upgrade the web server box. The shuttle PC was becoming unstable and I decided that I can visualise the programming box if I built a beefy enough computer.
To that end, I’ve purchased a quick machine based upon the Intel i7 processor.
Setting up was reasonably painless, even with a bit of head-scratching to do with the heatsink. The most noticable thing about theis processor is that it uses ‘pads’ rather than ‘pins’ – the pins are on the motherboard instead.
In any case, Windows 7 is now installed on this machineĀ and there’s 8 processors showing up in task manager!
So far, I’ve had Vuze running and have installed World of Warcraft. When both are running together the processor utilisation barely peaks over 40%!
Overall I’m impressed so far with this machine and the Windows 7 install and utility.
