Updating to the Virtual Hypervisor VMware ESXi 3i U4

I’ve updated this now to VMware ESXi 4.0.

The install process itself was reasonably easy, once I’d installed vSphere. You could then apply the update to the server from that using an image you download.

Not much to report other than the fact that I still think the memory on this machine needs to be higher – Currently its 2Gb and still doesn’t seem to be enough to run Windows 7 quickly.

At this rate I may build a Win 7 box and install VMWare Server on it and see if it performs better that way…

It’s been fun running with the “Bare Metal” version but it’s not for the home user – set-up is none-too-easy although i probably won’t be in a position to comment until I can use iSCSI as a resource (which means i’m waiting on the Netgear ReadyNAS to get their stuff done!).
